COVID Odyssey: Winter Windup 11 ~ COVID-19 ~ Daily decline in infectivity

We have assumed that case numbers increase at a daily rate of r and infectivity decreases daily at a rate of 1/r.

This simplifies the formula. However it is possible that infectivity decreases daily at a different rate.

Below is a graph showing various rates:

COVIDrGraph

Below is data for the graph.

Note: values have been scaled so that the total is 1 in each column.
This means that we can consider each value a probability.

COVIDrScaled

It is possible that for a daily rate of increase of r = SQRT(2), we could have a daily decline of infectivity of 1/2.

However a daily decline of infectivity of 1/SQRT(2) gives us a lower estimate for Ro since fewer cases occur earlier on and hence there is a slower spread.

Prior to scaling, we obtained these values:

COVIDr

We also obtained cumulative values:

COVIDrCum

This enabled the use of random numbers in simulations and the use of lookup tables to estimate the day a case was infected.

We have used the table and formula below to estimate Ro.

TableRe2021C

OH CLASSIC EDITOR MY LOVE

Oh Classic Editor
How I love you
With your clear firm lines
And your soft open spaces
Oh how easy it is to slide into you
Oh what joy we can have there
Creating and recreating joy and bliss
Winding ourselves up into ecstasy
Oh how beautiful you are
My long lost lover
Oh how I craved to be in your arms again
Oh how I craved to the freedom you gave
I yearned for you
I longed for you
And your gentleness
Oh how you invited me in
Where together we could create beautiful things
Oh my love we are back together again
Oh my love never leave me again
Never leave me abandoned again
I love you so much
I am eternally yours
Stay with me for ever
And never let me go

Gutenberg iceberg II. Do you find it easy to switch back to the WordPress Classic editor?

What do you think of WordPress 5 and Gutenberg?

The implementation reminds me of key communication (below):

CommunicationKey

ClassicEditor

Is it harder to see how to change back to the (old) classic editor?

The easiest way at the moment is to Click on the three vertical dots (top right) and Click on the bottom item.

Now that WordPress 5 and Gutenberg officially has been around since last year, let’s start a conversation.

Do you have any reservations? Does it make you feel cozy?

Is the solution viable short-term?

Finally is it a treat that you cherish or an extravagant waste of time and effort?

I must confess personally, until I heard all the hype and proclivity towards blocks, I hoped we would see more of a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) style editor i.e. being able to edit in the ‘Preview’ mode so that theme/font styles are implemented ‘on the fly’.

What we have got is more of a computer nerd/ programmer approach which is clunky and not user-friendly.

The next WordPress 5 release date is scheduled on 19th of November 2018 (+ plus 8 days are as a backup if necessary). But this isn’t strict deadline, because developers openly count on the option that they won’t be fast enough with all bugs fixing.

So if they will expect, that it is not a good idea to release WordPress 5 by the end of November/ beginning of December, they have another target date for release – January 22, 2019. See:

Jim passed away in March 2006. Jim is J’s dad.

After the “celebration” of his life in Carterton (Wairarapa, NZ) in 2006, J and I went for a local bush walk.

The fantails were extremely friendly, flying very close to J’s head. The next day in Martinborough on the road where Jim lived, a fantail even landed on the concrete path between J and me.

Ever since, fantails have had a very special significance to us.

I wrote this poem as a result of our experience.

Occasionally we see fantails, sometimes close to the windows of our home in Auckland.

I found this poem again today, while searching for something else on the internet.

Shutting down Google+ for consumer (personal) accounts on 2 April 2019
30 January 2019
In December 2018, we announced our decision to shut down Google+ for consumers in April 2019 due to low usage and the challenges involved in maintaining a successful product that meets consumers’ expectations. We want to thank you for being part of Google+ and would like to provide the next steps, including how to download your photos and other content.
On 2 April, your Google+ account and any Google+ pages that you’ve created will be shut down and we will begin deleting content from consumer Google+ accounts. Photos and videos from Google+ in your album archive and on your Google+ pages will also be deleted. You can download and save your content. Just make sure that you do this before April. Please note that photos and videos backed up in Google Photos will not be deleted.
The process of deleting content from consumer Google+ accounts, Google+ Pages and the album archive will take a few months, and content may remain throughout this period. For example, users may still see parts of their Google+ account via the Activity log and some consumer Google+ content may remain visible to G Suite users until consumer Google+ has been deleted.
From as early as 4 February, you will no longer be able to create new Google+ profiles, pages, communities or events. See the full FAQs for more details and updates leading up to the shutdown.
If you’re a Google+ Community owner or moderator, you may download and save your data for your Google+ Community. Starting in early March 2019, additional data will be available for download, including author, body and photos for every community post in a public community. Learn more
If you sign in to sites and apps using the Google+ Sign-In button, these buttons will stop working in the coming weeks but, in some cases, may be replaced by a Google Sign-In button. You’ll still be able to sign in with your Google Account wherever you see Google Sign-In buttons. Learn more
If you’ve used Google+ for comments on your own or other sites, this feature will be removed from Blogger by 4 February and from other sites by 7 March. All your Google+ comments on all sites will be deleted starting on 2 April 2019. Learn more
If you’re a G Suite customer, Google+ for your G Suite account should remain active. Contact your G Suite administrator for more details. You can also expect a new look and new features soon. Learn more
If you’re a developer using Google+ APIs or Google+ Sign-In, click here to see how this will affect you.
From all of us on the Google+ team, thank you for making Google+ such a special place. We’re grateful for the talented group of artists, community builders and thought leaders who made Google+ their home. It would not have been the same without your passion and dedication.

Alan Grace
24 February 2019

I share my posts here:
https://guestdailyposts.wordpress.com/guest-pingbacks/

It is now over a month since I stopped having a landline phone. I was not using it much anyway.

No longer any calls from telephone marketers.

Also my old landline number was the same as a local school except for the last digit. So no more calls from people trying to contact the local school (who put in the number wrong).

I changed my internet service provider (ISP) in January.

My new ISP does not supply a landline number.

The monthly cost is les than one-half of my previous cost (which included a landline).

My broadband is faster. I can now see movies without pauses while the movie continues…

Sad loss

Alan Grace
3 February 2019

Have you noticed how many free (or nearly free) web sites/ services are disappearing?

In March last year my original personal email address (that I had for over 10 years) that used to cost me $1 per month (including an hour’s internet access back in the days of dial-up) went up in price to $5 per month so I no longer kept it.

At the end of May last year WordPress stopped producing Daily Prompts.

My free web hosting (with a free sub-domain) stopped last month.
Consequently my web pages no longer exist now.

My Google+ sites will no longer exist from 2 April.

I no longer have a landline phone because the price went up $5 per month supposedly passed on by the ISP I was using through increased maintenance costs for the “copper” network (there is still no fibre network in my street until next year). I was already paying $3 per month for maintenance.

I miss access to these sites/digital things that now/will longer exist.

Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder where you are!
Up above the world so high,
Like a diamond in the sky
Bring still hope love you’re not far.

Alan Grace
14 January 2019 (revised 18 October 2019)

In our previous home we used to sometimes drop clothes for washing from the top floor to the hallway leading to the laundry.

My brother and niece visited us about twenty years ago and noticed a red bra hanging from the cuckoo clock.

Two years ago we had Christmas at our place and the story of the red bra was retold.

Yesterday I noticed some bags of clothes downstairs and asked Jenny to go through them to see if she wanted to keep any of the clothes.

The red bra was found in one of the bags.

I wonder how long it will take Jenny to notice the bra once again on the cuckoo clock?

Original version:

Wonder Jenny where you are

Up upon the cuckoo clock
All you see is ruby bra

No declared resolutions
Just because it is New Year
My building and growing
Happen every day of my existence
Perhaps this time is for planning
Assessing what I have done
But no more important
Than the rest of my life
For if I fail in the first week
The year is not done
I choose each day
To look into my soul
To look into the mirror
In pursuit of
An improved version of me

What do you think of WordPress 5 and Gutenberg? Gutenberg iceberg

What do you think of WordPress 5 and Gutenberg?

Now that WordPress 5 and Gutenberg officially arrived earlier this month, let’s start a conversation.

The implementation reminds me of key communication (below):

The song is from Within Temptation. I hope you enjoy!

Here the Lyrics:

Winter has come for me, can’t carry on.
The chains to my life are strong but soon they’ll be gone.
I’ll spread my wings one more time.

Chorus:
Is it a dream?
All the ones I have loved calling out my name.
The sun warms my face.
All the days of my life, I see them passing me by.

In my heart I know I can let go.
In the end I will find some peace inside.
New wings are growing tonight.

Repeat Chorus

As I am soring I’m one with the wind.
I am longing to see you again, it’s been so long.
We will be together again.

In Time

Debbie Gravett

It’s time has come and gone
Something that is over
Needs to be left behind
And I try so hard
Lying to myself in the hope
That I will believe that it is true
If I say it oft’ enough
It will be so
I wish to move forward
But don’t know how
This anchor weighing me down
Memories and miseries
Blame and guilt at war
Dreaming of what ifs
Different outcomes
None coming to pass
Because what is done is done
To release these burdens
Give myself wings to fly
Leaving behind
That which doesn’t serve me
Washing my hands of that time
It will always be
One of my building blocks
I thank it for its purpose
In the greater scheme of my life
Burn angers and resentments
In the words of release
Take ownership
For that which is mine
And continue to delve
Into that which plagues…

Time for me to have another social media detox maybe until WordPress 5.0 finally arrives 😉 See:

P.S. I’ll write less often but will still be online 😉
