Shutting down Google+ for consumer (personal) accounts on 2 April 2019
30 January 2019
In December 2018, we announced our decision to shut down Google+ for consumers in April 2019 due to low usage and the challenges involved in maintaining a successful product that meets consumers’ expectations. We want to thank you for being part of Google+ and would like to provide the next steps, including how to download your photos and other content.
On 2 April, your Google+ account and any Google+ pages that you’ve created will be shut down and we will begin deleting content from consumer Google+ accounts. Photos and videos from Google+ in your album archive and on your Google+ pages will also be deleted. You can download and save your content. Just make sure that you do this before April. Please note that photos and videos backed up in Google Photos will not be deleted.
The process of deleting content from consumer Google+ accounts, Google+ Pages and the album archive will take a few months, and content may remain throughout this period. For example, users may still see parts of their Google+ account via the Activity log and some consumer Google+ content may remain visible to G Suite users until consumer Google+ has been deleted.
From as early as 4 February, you will no longer be able to create new Google+ profiles, pages, communities or events. See the full FAQs for more details and updates leading up to the shutdown.
If you’re a Google+ Community owner or moderator, you may download and save your data for your Google+ Community. Starting in early March 2019, additional data will be available for download, including author, body and photos for every community post in a public community. Learn more
If you sign in to sites and apps using the Google+ Sign-In button, these buttons will stop working in the coming weeks but, in some cases, may be replaced by a Google Sign-In button. You’ll still be able to sign in with your Google Account wherever you see Google Sign-In buttons. Learn more
If you’ve used Google+ for comments on your own or other sites, this feature will be removed from Blogger by 4 February and from other sites by 7 March. All your Google+ comments on all sites will be deleted starting on 2 April 2019. Learn more
If you’re a G Suite customer, Google+ for your G Suite account should remain active. Contact your G Suite administrator for more details. You can also expect a new look and new features soon. Learn more
If you’re a developer using Google+ APIs or Google+ Sign-In, click here to see how this will affect you.
From all of us on the Google+ team, thank you for making Google+ such a special place. We’re grateful for the talented group of artists, community builders and thought leaders who made Google+ their home. It would not have been the same without your passion and dedication.

I share my posts here:
https://guestdailyposts.wordpress.com/guest-pingbacks/

It is now over a month since I stopped having a landline phone. I was not using it much anyway.

No longer any calls from telephone marketers.

Also my old landline number was the same as a local school except for the last digit. So no more calls from people trying to contact the local school (who put in the number wrong).

I changed my internet service provider (ISP) in January.

My new ISP does not supply a landline number.

The monthly cost is les than one-half of my previous cost (which included a landline).

My broadband is faster. I can now see movies without pauses while the movie continues…

Sad loss

Sad loss

Why is my mind not at ease
I do not like this disease
They want to take away
A free i-site a day
I hate losing my freebies

Alan Grace
3 February 2019

Have you noticed how many free (or nearly free) web sites/ services are disappearing?

In March last year my original personal email address (that I had for over 10 years) that used to cost me $1 per month (including an hour’s internet access back in the days of dial-up) went up in price to $5 per month so I no longer kept it.

At the end of May last year WordPress stopped producing Daily Prompts.

My free web hosting (with a free sub-domain) stopped last month.
Consequently my web pages no longer exist now.

My Google+ sites will no longer exist from 2 April.

I no longer have a landline phone because the price went up $5 per month supposedly passed on by the ISP I was using through increased maintenance costs for the “copper” network (there is still no fibre network in my street until next year). I was already paying $3 per month for maintenance.

I miss access to these sites/digital things that now/will longer exist.

Red bra (lost and found)

Red bra (lost and found)

Twinkle twinkle little star
Wonder Jenny where you are
Tempus fugit quick tick tock
Once upon the cuckoo clock
All you see is ruby bra

Alan Grace
14 January 2019

In our previous home we used to sometimes drop clothes for washing from the top floor to the hallway leading to the laundry.

My brother and niece visited us about twenty years ago and noticed a red bra hanging from the cuckoo clock.

Two years ago we had Christmas at our place and the story of the red bra was retold.

Yesterday I noticed some bags of clothes downstairs and asked Jenny to go through them to see if she wanted to keep any of the clothes.

The red bra was found in one of the bags.

I wonder how long it will take Jenny to notice the bra once again on the cuckoo clock?

Mirror on the wall
Mirror in my soul
What do you show
Of this last year gone by?
Struggles and triumphs
A mixed bag of experience
Lessons and life
Reflected as one
None with regret
None with disdain
For all have contributed
To this who I am
Gratitude filled
For a life lived, and still living
I take no giant leap
No declared resolutions
Just because it is New Year
My building and growing
Happen every day of my existence
Perhaps this time is for planning
Assessing what I have done
But no more important
Than the rest of my life
For if I fail in the first week
The year is not done
I choose each day
To look into my soul
To look into the mirror
In pursuit of
An improved version of me

What do you think of WordPress 5 and Gutenberg? Gutenberg iceberg

What do you think of WordPress 5 and Gutenberg?

Now that WordPress 5 and Gutenberg officially arrived earlier this month, let’s start a conversation.

Do you have any reservations? Does it make you feel cozy?

Is the solution viable short-term?

Finally is it a treat that you cherish or an extravagant waste of time and effort?

I must confess personally, until I heard all the hype and proclivity towards blocks, I hoped we would see more of a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) style editor i.e. being able to edit in the ‘Preview’ mode so that theme/font styles are implemented ‘on the fly’.

What we have got is more of a computer nerd/ programmer approach which is clunky and not user-friendly.

The implementation reminds me of key communication (below):

Daily Prompts:

Expect WordPress 5.0 to be released from 19 November. See:

https://make.wordpress.org/core/5-0/

https://aaamazingphoenix.wordpress.com/2018/10/18/wordpress-5-0-release-date-19-november-twenty-nineteen-theme/

The next WordPress 5 release date is scheduled on 19th of November 2018 (+ plus 8 days are as a backup if necessary). But this isn’t strict deadline, because developers openly count on the option that they won’t be fast enough with all bugs fixing.

So if they will expect, that it is not a good idea to release WordPress 5 by the end of November/ beginning of December, they have another target date for release – January 22, 2019. See:
